I just found an old theatre-like script I wrote a few years ago. It’s not finished, but I like the story and have kept the idea for the end in my head for more than a year now. I think it’s finally time to finish it. There are some twists and scenes that I will remove, some others I will have to add, but I have to finally finish it.
Wish me luck. I have the feeling that I will abandon it again after a short time of writing… inspiration has been a bitch for long enough.
But well, I should just read it now… I still have it in my head, but there will surely be some parts I forgot about or some language flaws I will have to correct.
Yes, Jasmina, I know.. we Icelanders are freaky bastards!
Look at the last one I posted. x’D Badassery at it’s best. Awesome rituals. ;D
I know, and I am glad you have finally realized that we are pretty fucking badass.
The necropants really are weird. I found that kinda funny when I stumbled upon them in the Galdrabók… x)
You try surviving under the conditions in Iceland and see if it doesn’t make you a little weird too x)
Haha, touché.
I’m so very tired.. a hug and someone to cuddle with would be perfect right now.
So, on request I will tell you my story of the Paganfest Hamburg 2012 on 26. March. It was something I was looking forward to for quite some time, as I considered the lineup as nearly perfect. At first we were a group of seven people wanting to go there, but in the end this group melted down to a small core of three people. So we met up at 15.00, as the doors in Hamburg’s Markthalle opened up at 17:30 and the tour would take us about two hours by car. But before it could begin we had to buy our “food supply” - nothing can beat one large baguette, a salami and a wedge of cheese to take a bite now and then. This took a bit longer and so we arrived a bit late, also because of the parking situation. But eventually we found some parking space right across the street from the venue.
So, as we arrived, Sólstafir were already on stage. They just finished their first song and we fought our way to the front lines, which was kind easy, as there weren’t that many people eager to see Sòlstafir, as it seemed… which really is a pity. I wanted to see them for such a long time, missed their show in Wacken Open Air last year and now finally had the chance to see them. The first song we heard was Fjara. Believe me, this was the most beautiful start for a concert one could imagine. I just stood there and was completely blown away. Goosebumps, really. There is just so much emotion on stage and you can feel it. This was perfect. You see, I love Sólstafir. Even both of my friends who were with my and didn’t know Sólstafir before were amazed. I really hope to see a full length show in the future.
During the break between Sólstafir and Heidevolk we bought some shirts, each of us the Paganfest shirt and I took the Sólstafir shirt as well - no regrets.
As we made our way to the front lines again waiting for Heidevolk, we met two weird people. The one of them came up to me, grinned and asked me if I only attended for Heidevolk and Eluveitie as well. “No”, I replied, “for all of them.” He didn’t believe that I know all the bands, for they would be “sooo unknown!”. Both the guys bought Heidevolk shirts and the one of them asked me what was written on his back. “Wodan Heerst”, said I and he asked me what it would mean. I told him that it’s Dutch and means something like “Wodan herrscht” (“Wodan reigns”), nearly the same in German. And they had no clue who Wodan is. “Wotan”, said I, “Allvater, Herjan… Odin.” “Oh, we know Odin, he is cool.” I will not comment this here, I think you can guess my thoughts.
But Heidevolk were just amazing then. As they announced their first song, Nehalennia, the guy behind me was so happy he spilled his cold beer on my back. So I had a cooling during all the headbanging, shouting and moshing. Could have been worse. I was really suprised that they spoke nearly perfect German by the way, Joris for example barely has a Dutch accent. I later had the chance to talk a bit to him, but unfortunately only for a short time. I didn’t even had the time to tell him the greetings from Armi, for she asked me to greet both Joris and Chrigel. Sorry, Schwesterchen. I didn’t catch Chrigel either. ;)
As Negură Bunget began to play, we were standing a bit apart from the stage. My friends didn’t like them. So we took a seat on the stairs in the foyer and listened to them from afar - they were pretty good actually - and had - inspired by those weird guys we met before Heidevolk - a talk about mythology. In the end we decided to create a mythology circle and have some meetings where we discuss mythological themes. Actually I am really looking forward to this. Also to the mead-brewing that we decided to start in the future.
Next in line were Primordial. I myself love them, but it seemed like some people around us did not at all. Their show was great though, the light show was amazing and so was their stage performance. And Nemtheanga is a god on the vocals. At some point I felt like I was the only one singing along, but during As Rome Burns everyone sang the “sing to the slaves” part. It is one of my favorite songs and this just blew my mind, to be honest. I was happy that they played some songs from “Redemption At The Puritan’s Hand”, as I have neither bought nor listened to it yet - now it is located quite high on my to-buy-list.
We left a bit earlier, so we missed their last song, but we wanted to get back to the car and have some refreshments - we brought a whole lot of beer, so we didn’t have to buy it there. But our intention was to get back early enough to get to the front rows during Eluveitie, as it was obvious that most of the people attended to see them in first place. But we managed to do that.
And what shall I say, Eluveitie were plain awesome. For so long I wanted to see them live and it was worth every single minute of waiting. Their song list was perfect and their show was just amazing. One of the best shows I have seen lately, pure ecstasy all around. Everyone moshing, banging their heads, shouting along, having a good time - I remember that amazing circle pit during Meet The Enemy. They really know how to make the crowd go wild. In the end my neck was killing me already, but I just couldn’t stop banging it - it actually still hurts, but that’s this kind of souvenir one loves to keep for a while.
So, all in all it was a perfect evening. Just what I needed and now I need more of it. Next in line is Eläkeläiset next month and also Agalloch, but I need to find someone who wants to come along with me, as getting to Hamburg on my own would be too expensive.
But there is one more story to be told: and that’s the tour back home. We left the venue at 00.30 and planned to arrive home at about 02:30, so it was late and we partied all the weekend before. You see, it was Monday, so we were still kind of exhausted anyway. And so our driver decided to took a rest on a resting spot. We turned off the light and both of my friends went to sleep for half an hour; I stayed awake for we didn’t want to rest there all night long. So after about twenty minutes our driver suddenly opened his eyes, shouting “I cannot see anything!”, instantly turning on the lights, stepped repeatedly on the breaks and was in panic; “We are moving” he shouted, “the sign’s coming closer!” Of course I knew this wasn’t true, there was a truck standing still about one and a half meter in front of us anyway, but he really was convinced we were moving. I opened the door and showed him, he still didn’t believe me. Only when I left the car for a moment he calmed down. Apparently he dreamed that he was still driving the car. Weird story and definitely funny for us, but at least he wasn’t sleepy at all afterwards. ;)
Oh my, I can hardly believe who just contacted me regarding an artwork. Let’s hope that this works out, for that would be… huge.
Just learned: Do never let your clients talk to you about a commission when you’re tired as fuck. I didn’t get a word of what he was talking about, have no idea about his concept or what kind of shots he wants. Now I am in the awkward situation to ask for the whole story once again…
